Stringism

The Nature of Evil

Evil is not a being. It is a concentration of corrupted strings — a node that bends the ethics of others through influence, and in extreme cases, through direct alteration.

The devil as a concept

Most religious traditions personify evil. They give it a name, a form, an adversarial intelligence. This serves a purpose — it makes evil legible, locatable, and in principle opposable. But it also suggests that evil originates in a single source, external to human nodes.

Stringism does not support this framing. Evil is not a single being. It is a mode of string configuration — and that mode can manifest in any node that accumulates the right kind of strings under the right kind of conditions.

The corrupted node

Just as a node of vast, benevolent knowledge could function as an almighty, a node of vast, malevolent influence — accumulated through strings shaped by harm, domination, and the active suppression of others' complexity — can function as a center of evil.

What makes such a node dangerous is not merely what it does directly. It is its effect on the strings of nearby nodes. A sufficiently corrupted, powerful node does not only act harmfully. It alters the strings of others — changing their knowledge, shifting their ethics, redirecting their direction.

The clearest historical example

The closest example in recent history is Nazism, with Hitler as its organizing node. He did not merely issue orders. The concentration of corrupted ideology, charisma, and institutional power in that node altered the ethical strings of an entire civilization — not only by changing laws but by genuinely reshaping what millions of people believed was true, acceptable, and correct.

This is what Stringism means by evil at scale: not a supernatural being, but a node so concentrated in corrupted strings that it performs surgery on the ethical configurations of everyone it touches.

The implication

You are responsible for the strings you allow to form within you. Not because of divine judgment, but because you are part of a network — and a node whose strings are shifting toward corruption will begin to pull the strings of the nodes nearest to it. Evil is not something that happens to you. It is a direction. And every node chooses, in each moment, whether to move toward it or away.
